Dermal Fillers and Injectables for Men

Ever wonder why so many Hollywood actors and professional athletes seem to age so well? Some of it may be great genes or lifestyle habits, but many times the truth is that these guys are making strategic investments in their anti-aging regimen; including the premium injectable treatments that we offer here at Sadick Dermatology. We are experts at using Botox and dermal fillers to give men a youthful yet masculine appearance. Our team gets it: You want to look well-rested and more refreshed, not “frozen” or effeminate. The good news is that there is no better place in New York than Sadick Dermatology for guys to receive quick and effective treatments like Botox in order to get the results they want.

From “bromances” to “murses,” it seems no trend previously exclusive to women is safe from men making it their own with a clever, masculine twist. As old-fashioned stigmas dissipate, men are becoming increasingly more open and proactive in addressing their appearance-related concerns, and utilizing dermal fillers and injectables such as Botox, Dysport, and Xeomin are no exception. In fact, according to the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, the number of injectable treatments (like Botox for men, or “Brotox”) performed between 2000 and 2017 skyrocketed 397 percent. There’s no denying that there’s a growing population of men who want quick, practical solutions to aging that allow them to look and feel their best without surgery.

What’s responsible for this recent surge of men seeking injectables? The reasons can range from desiring to look less tired and stressed to wanting to maintain an “executive edge” in a highly competitive, youth-driven workforce. The majority, however, simply want to feel good about the way they look and are ready to seek out cosmetic treatments as a way of achieving that confidence.

At Sadick Dermatology, we understand that men often wish to explore non-invasive cosmetic treatments because of their temporary results and lack of downtime. Let’s be honest, NYC is a busy town and many of us have demanding schedules that don’t allow for us to take time off for recovery. That is why we have the treatments, technology, and expertise to allow guys to look their best without taking any time off from work, they gym, or dating.

We offer a variety of treatments, like Botox and dermal fillers (also known as facial fillers), that are FDA-approved, and work instantly to address a wide range of aging concerns on your face and body, from reducing the appearance of wrinkles to restoring volume lost over time.

Neurotoxin Injectables

Neurotoxin injectables contain a substance known as Botulinum Toxin Type A, a neurotoxin which works to block nerve signals to the facial muscles that contribute to wrinkle formation. You probably know this treatment better by one of its brand names, Botox, which is consistently the most popular non-invasive cosmetic treatment amongst both men and women nationwide. However, did you know that there are two other exceptional products called “Dysport” and “Xeomin” that can be used instead of Botox, and for some patients offer even better results? Unlike many dermatology clinics, at Sadick Dermatology we offer all three of these products and select the one that will give our patients the best results based on their unique physiology and personal goals.

Botox and other neurotoxin injectables primarily treat dynamic wrinkles, or wrinkles caused by your repetitive facial expressions and movements. When Botox-type treatments are administered, nerve impulses to facial muscles are blocked, allowing them to relax. As a result, your expressions will soften and the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles will be reduced.

Some men are hesitant to try this type of treatment because they’re afraid of looking frozen, or made to look feminine. Trust us, in the hands of a skilled doctor or physician assistant, these treatments are safe and effective at delivering a natural, masculine aesthetic. However, that is why it’s so important to choose a highly-experienced provider to administer your treatment. Those who go to discount docs or lesser-skilled providers are putting themselves at risk for unwanted outcomes. At Sadick Dermatology, we have some of the best dermatologists in NYC, and we understand that men want a natural, youthful and rested look. Nothing more, nothing less. Discuss your goals with your provider and we’ll deliver the results you want.

Neurotoxin injectables are most commonly used to treat:

  • Forehead creases
  • Lines around the corners of the mouth
  • Fine lines around the eyes, known as “crow’s feet”
  • Frown lines known as “elevens”

Sadick Dermatology offers the following neurotoxin injectables:

  • Botox
  • Dysport

Hyaluronic Acid Fillers

Hyaluronic acid occurs naturally in your body and plays a vital role in keeping your skin hydrated and maintaining its youthful fullness. Hyaluronic acid fillers are ideal for treating static wrinkles, or wrinkles that are visible even while your face is resting. When administered into soft tissue as a dermal filler, it can restore areas of your face that have lost volume or appear sunken, as well as instantly fill and smooth wrinkles from within.

Hyaluronic acid fillers are most commonly used to treat:

  • Nasolabial folds
  • Marionette lines
  • Dark circles or hollows under the eyes
  • Volume loss in the cheeks
  • Acne scars

Collagen Boosting Fillers

Collagen boosting fillers are a group of injectables we offer that are composed of naturally-occurring or synthetic ingredients that work to stimulate collagen production and add volume to the treated areas of your skin for long-lasting results. At Sadick Dermatology, we offer the following collagen-boosting injectables:

Radiesse – Radiesse uses a naturally-occurring substance called calcium hydroxylapatite that is primarily found in your bones. When converted into injectable microspheres, it provides a natural collagen-boost in your skin. The microspheres are suspended in a gel-like substance that is usually a thicker consistency than fillers containing hyaluronic acid to fill deeper creases and wrinkles.

Sculptra – Sculptra is composed of Poly-L-lactic acid, a biocompatible synthetic substance that is safely absorbed by the body over time. While the gel substance containing Poly-L-latic acid is metabolized by your body a few days after the injections, it continues to help rebuild natural collagen, so results can last upwards of two years.

Bellafill – Bellafill is comprised of Polymethylmethacrylate microspheres, another synthetic and biocompatible substance. These tiny spheres remain beneath your skin’s surface to provided support to your skin’s structure as the collagen underneath is stimulated to rebuild. Since this filler is not designed to be absorbed by your body, results can endure for years.

How Long do Dermal Fillers Last?

All injectable treatments are temporary solutions for addressing signs of aging, but some are designed to last longer than others. The duration of the results of your dermal filler treatment will be determined by the type of filler selected, your targeted treatment areas and how quickly your body breaks down the injections. Neurotoxin injections, such as Botox, will require repeat treatments every four to six months to keep facial muscles relaxed and prevent further lines from forming.

The results of hyaluronic acid injectables, on the other hand, can last anywhere from four months to a year before additional treatments are necessary. Some dermal fillers, such as Radiesse or Sculptra, can last for several years.

What to Expect from Your Injectable Procedures and Recovery Time

Dermal fillers are a quick and easy nonsurgical procedure performed right in our office in under 30 minutes. While Dr. Sadick may apply a topical numbing agent to ease any potential discomfort, some fillers already contain a mild anesthetic in their formula. Slight redness, swelling, or bruising at the injection sites are the most common side effects of this procedure. Men have naturally thicker skin and bones than women, so often require a thicker consistency in their filler dosage and deeper injections.

The beauty of dermal fillers is they require zero recovery time after the procedure. Dr. Sadick may recommend avoiding strenuous activity immediately following the procedure and keeping your head upright, but in most cases, you can quickly return to your normal manly activities. The results of most dermal fillers should be noticeable immediately, revealing naturally younger and smoother-looking skin. While Botox-type injection results take slightly longer to appear, you should begin to see a noticeable difference in your skin’s appearance within three to seven days.
